HOW TO PREPARE FOR YOUR NEWBORN PHOTOGRAPHY SESSION IN BRISBANE
Nothing tugs more at my heartstrings than the tiny little newborns I photograph. There is nothing more magical than the birth of a child. Capturing and preserving the tender innocence of your brand-new baby is a privilege. Being prepared for your newborn photography session in Brisbane will ensure that you get great results!
I understand that new parents have many needs and are busy, especially in those first few days after the birth of a baby. However, one highly recommended event is to bring your baby in for a newborn photography session. I don’t need to tell you how fast children grow from infant to toddler, before you know it your child will be starting school (hold back your tears). The moments click by almost as fast as the shutter on our cameras. That's what makes newborn photography so important, it's your opportunity to preserve those precious moments.

It's important that your newborn photography session is an exciting, stress-free time for you and your family. But, I've often found that clients worry and become anxious prepping for their shoots. The good news is it doesn't take much planning to make sure you can sit back, relax and enjoy every second of your time spent in my beautiful natural light studio. When your newborn isn't so new anymore you'll be sure to look back on this time with tender love and happiness. Follow my top five tips to help you get ready with ease, and sit back and enjoy...
BOOK IN ADVANCE

This is probably one of the simplest things you can do to ensure that your experience is stress free. I prefer to photograph babies within their first 14 days of being new...not only are they more squishy and sleepy in these first few days, but they also tend to have better skin before any of those little milk rashes appear. So, to get in on time you need to think ahead!
By booking your session in advance you're ensuring you won't miss out and you'll be fully prepared!!
I work on a first come, first serve basis and offer a limited number of sessions each week to ensure that I produce the finest quality images, without being stretched and rushed.
An ideal time to book is once you're over the hurdle of the first trimester, this is also a great time to start thinking of booking your maternity session if you're planning one of these as well.
KEEP YOUR BABY AWAKE BEFORE THE SESSION

This might seem like a tough one but it really does work. The key to a successful newborn photoshoot in Brisbane is a sleepy baby. When a baby is in a deep sleep I can pose them with ease!! Keeping your bub awake before a session is a great way to guarantee they will sleep through most of it.
That being said, if your little love decides to stay awake, don't fear, I'll still produce great results!

FEED YOUR BABY 20 - 30 MINUTES BEFORE YOUR SESSION
By now you're probably familiar with the term 'milk drunk', well that's what I'm looking for. It's a great idea to feed your baby just before you leave for your newborn session in Brisbane. Feeding your bub will help them to be settled and comfortable once you arrive. You can also feed your bub at any point throughout the shoot!!
DRESS FOR SUCCESS
Ok. This might sound silly, is probably something you haven't considered but what you wear matters. Most newborn photography sessions in Brisbane can get pretty hot, it's important we keep the baby warm and comfortable. But if you're anything like me postpartum, you're going to get pretty hot in the process (thanks hormones). I always advise my clients to wear light weight fabrics (even in winter). Making sure that it's something you'll be comfortable sitting and possibly kneeling in too (think bending for hand poses). Another great tip is to wear light or pale-coloured clothing, neutral always looks best. And Mumma, think underwear! My client's wardrobe is made up of white and neutral dresses, black bras and undies don't cut it!
SIT BACK AND WATCH THE SHOW
Now it's your time to relax. When you arrive you will be greeted with snacks and drinks, a comfy sofa and a warm room. Make yourself at home. I say it's time for you to sit back, relax and let me do my thing! Most sessions start with bub on my posing pillow. During this time I usually ask that all breastfeeding Mummas stay on the couch. Babies can smell your milk which might disturb them. It might be hard, but believe me, it works! I'm more than happy to change baby's nappies, wipe up poop and will probably be peed on. That's ok! It's literally in my job https://bernierosephotos.com.au/contact/description. Even if your newborn cries from start to finish I guarantee you will love your final gallery!
Life is all about special moments. What more important moment can you think of than the birth of the very life that you created? I look forward to documenting this amazing time in your family's journey!!
